Obituary of Mary (Currie)Sullivan, G. B., Sydney Mines

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the loss of our wonderful mother, Mary Cecilia Sullivan (nee Currie), 64, of Sydney Mines, formally Glace Bay, who died suddenly in her home during the early hours of Monday, March 16, 2020. Born March 24th, 1955 to parents Donald and Pearl Currie (Aucoin) of Glace Bay, Mom was the second of seven children and is survived by her sisters, Geraldine Currie and Bernadette Currie, as well as her four brothers, James, Donald, Darrell of Glace Bay and Raymond of BC. She is also survived by many members of her Sullivan family. Mom was predeceased by our father Ossie, her parents, her mother and father in law, Robert and Lillian (Dawe) Sullivan, as well as nephews Michael Currie, Andrew Jobe, Dougie Metcalf and niece Kathleen (Kathy) Sullivan. Mom was a devoted wife to our father who was the love of her life for over 44 years. She and dad raised three daughters, Carmel (Jacob) Albert of Louisiana, Valerie (Brian) MacDonald of Sydney Mines and Shauna (James) Wells of Lake Echo. She was a loving nanny to her 5 grandsons, Anthony (A.J.), Noah, Dylan, Hunter and Ryder. She adored each of her grand-babies and they each loved to make her laugh, tease her and of course they enjoyed the never ending supply of hugs and cuddles. No one was more proud of their grandchildren than she was and would often tell stories to anyone that would listen about how special each one was. She was widely known for her wonderful baking and would often give out her delicious apple pies , this earned her the title of Pie Lady. Mom was often found at the bingo hall enjoying herself chatting and laughing with others while “waiting” for her number. She often opened her home and her heart to anyone that needed a warm bed and a hot meal. Her sense of humor was a bit crazy which was one of many things we loved her for. She will be missed by everyone, but especially by her children and grandchildren and her faithful fur baby Chewie, but we do find peace in knowing she is now where she always wanted to be, by her husband’s side, watching over us, together again. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
