Obituary of Margaret Roseline McCarthy, Dominion

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret McCarthy, age 87 on Sunday, April 19th, 2020 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Duncan and Clara (MacLeod) Cameron. Margaret was a member of the former St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion. She belonged to the choir, The Children of Mary and was a cursillistas. Margaret was a member of the Home and School, The Garden Club and the Dominion Pensioners Club. She enjoyed oil painting, crafts, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and baking- she made many special cakes. She was a music lover, Neil Diamond was her favourite artist, she also enjoyed listening to her girls around the piano, it brought her much joy and happiness. Margaret is survived by her seven children, Mary Clare (Pat) Sampson, Tommy (Alice), Robert (Joan), Rose (Tim) Synder, Carol (Allen) White, Anne and Allyson (Sandy) Langley, sisters, Eileen McInnis, Gena Farrow, her brother, Greg and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and her very dear friend, Rosemary Reid for 80 years. A special thank you to her granddaughter, Jen who took care of her many needs, you were her Number 1. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Tom “White Hope” McCarthy, brothers, James and Josie, sisters, Theresa Hallet, Georgina MacNeil and Mary MacNeil. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Center, Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated at a LATER DATE in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport followed by burial in St. Eugene’s Cemetery.
