My apologies for belated condolences to Luke’s entire family. Myself and brothers Brian and Jack have nothing but great memories of the years spent with Luke. Personally, through our times in NW and Halifax, Luke was not only wonderful to be in the company of, but very intellectual, kind hearted and always, always up for a good time. His knowledge of most subjects was second to none and made for great conversations. I still make a chicken curry recipe he gave me many many years ago - 1986 I believe. Rest In Peace, Luke.

Dear Sam and family,
We were so pleased to have had the opportunity to meet Luke when we visited Nova Scotia in late 2018 and are so sorry to hear of his passing.
While we only spent a short time visiting him, it was obvious he was an intelligent, curious and gentle man. He will be greatly missed by the family.
Sending our love and support to the family.

My sincere condolences to you, Paul, and to your brothers, Sam and Daniel, and to your families.
I first met Luke with some friends many years ago at Calvin Hall. He was at the ping pong table and seemed to be beating every opponent he faced. We were somehow introduced and it was agreed that we would play a game. Well, as it turned out, it was no contest, he was so good. But, I do remember being impressed that, as he was taking my game apart, he was being nice about it.
Some years later, a shared interest in music and the blues brought us and other friends together to play and have some great times at parties and at folk festivals like the Atlantic and at Tarbot Hills.
Luke was kind, witty, and smart. And his laughter I remember too. He had a million dollar laugh.

It is with great sadness that I am writing this note.
I knew about Luke prior to first meeting him at St. F.X. in the fall of 1970 when I started my study of Engineering. Our family were avid watchers of Reach for the Top, mostly because of my brother Pat’s skill at that game when representing Port Hawkesbury High. Knowing Luke’s name was like knowing Henri Richard’s name. We were all his fans.
When I finally did meet him at X, it was comforting to realize that a person so talented, so brilliant, could be such a gentle man and eventually a good friend. A group of us Engineering Students, with Luke, stopped in to your parents home sometime circa 1971 and met your folks and one or two of you. The warmth with which we were greeted remains a fond memory.
Like my older brother Pat, Luke had an encyclopedic memory....and his recall was always instantaneous. To this day I never have met another person who could challenge him on pro hockey records and I loved to watch that smile on his face when he would get to meet the challenge from someone naive enough to test his memory. Just hanging out with Luke was always an opportunity to learn.
As life goes on we often lose contact with friends...but the friends we knew during our formative years are often the most fondly remembered. It was my wife Lynn, who has never met Luke, who saw his obituary in the Herald and remembered me talking about him. It was so nice to be refreshed on Luke’s travels through his early life. Thank you for this. Somehow, even such beautiful words are not enough.
So from our family to yours, we wish you peace and comfort during these difficult days.
Stay safe.

Dear Paul,Samuel,Danuel and family our heart felt thoughts are with you at this time.
I will always remember Luke for his kindness, good humour, intelligence and of course his wit and riddles. Many times he would share them with me and was very amused when I was able to figure them out; of course that wasn't every time. High school and young adulthood wouldn't have been as enjoyable and unpredictable if I had to experience it without my good friend Luke. Now he is on another adventure I hope St. Peter enjoys his riddles.
Your Friend with many fond memories
of a valued human being.

We were sorry to read about Luke's passing today. He was such a brilliant man with wonderful accomplishments throughout his life. We were all blessed, as he and your brothers were, to have Martin and Ida in our lives. They would have been so proud of you all for your continuous concern for Luke's well being and for his remarkable obiturary. Their spirits are finally united. We were remarking the other day about Martin's famous line at a Rotary dinner, when he stood to speak to his audience. He said," I want you all to know something before you hear it from someone else. I have a mistress." Then he smiled at our open mouths, brushed his hand through his hair and said "Her name is Miss Clairol". Sendng you smiles and peace when you think of Luke. Sincerely Bernie and Beth Boudreau.
