Obituary of Laurentia Theresa O'Brien, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurentia Theresa O’Brien, age 92 on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born and raised in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Annie (McQuarry) MacNeil. Laurentia was a member of St. John’s Church, Glace Bay. In her younger years she was employed at General Instruments as well as McKeigan’s Bakery. She enjoyed baking, cooking, bowling (Ladies Colliery League), playing cards and entertaining.Laurentia loved her grandchildren and her many friends. She could brighten the lives of all who were in her presence. Laurentia is survived by her daughter, Rose (Dan) Murrin, Glace Bay, two grandchildren, Dana (Marie), Danielle (Henry), four great grandchildren, Garrett, Keagan, Jordan, Daniel, one great great grandchild, Aria and nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Laurentia was predeceased by her husband, Thomas O’Brien in 2017, two brothers, John Joe, Danny and six sisters, Eleanor, Evelyn, Mae, Julia, Agnes and Josie. A special thank you to the staff, especially Nancy, with whom she loved and cared for dearly at Steelworkers Lane, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated at a LATER DATE in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by interment in the parish cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations in memory of Laurentia may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
