Obituary of Carl Blennie "Pops" MacKenzie, Glace Bay

We, the family of Carl Blennie "Pops" MacKenzie, regret to announce his sudden passing on Saturday, July 25th, 2020 at his residence, after a brief illness with cancer. He was 82 years young. Born in Glace Bay, Blennie was the son of the late Alex and Catherine (MacDonald) MacKenzie. He worked as a Devco mechanic for 35 years and retired in 1980. Blennie enjoyed fishing and hunting with his best friend, Ira Shepard. He also loved to watch the Blue Jays play baseball. Blennie was a proud father to Carl (Arlene), Michael, Susan (Ricky)Walton, Ricky (Yvonne), all of Glace Bay, Lisa (Alex) MacNeil of Ontario and special daughter, Jeannie of Sydney. He was grandfather to 13 grandchildren, great grandfather to 5 great grandchildren and uncle to many nieces and nephews both near and far away. Also surviving are his sisters, Sylvia (Stanley) MacQueen and Diane (Neil) Clarke from Hamilton, Ontario. Besides his parents, Blennie was predeceased by his sisters, Lorna, Delores (Donnie) Brophy and brother, Todd. The family would like to thank Dr. Odumosu for her compassionate care and many phone calls during his illness. As per Blennie’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Cremation & Reception Center, Glace Bay. A private, family graveside service will take place at a later date.
