Obituary of Sadie Theresa Keusch, Middleton/N.W.
KEUSCH, Sadie Theresa ~ 93 years young, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2020 at the Heart of the Valley Nursing Home, Middleton, NS.
Sadie was born in Inverness, Cape Breton to Arthur and Bertha (McKenzie) Copan on July 4th 1927. At an early age she moved to help her older sister Tillie with their children but three years later was reunited with her Father and Mother and their large family when they all relocated to New Waterford when the Inverness Coal Mines closed.
She lived most of her life in New Waterford and met her husband Peter Keusch at the age of 33 who predeceased her in 2003. Our mother was a kind and loving soul who remained devoted to the raising of her two sons, Arthur and Tony, and later moved to be closer to them in St. Albert, AB and in the Annapolis Valley, NS, for periods of time.
Sadie worked various jobs in the early years in NB at the C.N. Wilson Estates and as a NB phone operator. She also worked at Eatons and Gorelick’s Retail stores, did hair dressing and janitorial services at BEC. Mom also was a nanny for the Morin and Cormier families which gave her great joy to help with their children. She was involved with the NW Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and the I.O.D.E. She was very skilled in many crafty things such as ceramics, sewing, knitting and crochet and took great pleasure to help others in any way possible.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur (Janet) Keusch and grandchildren Brendan and Shannon (Zach) Shirton, St. Albert, AB; Tony (Catherine) Keusch, their pet dog Zeus, Falmouth, NS and her step-granddaughter Erin Banks, great-granddaughter Destiny, Greenwood, NS; her step-grandson Evan (Carole) Banks and great-granddaughter Zoe, Fredericton, NB; and all of her nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to nieces Alberta and Wendy who she had a special closeness to. She is also survived by her sister Gladys Copan, Boston, MA.
She was predeceased by baby girl Copan, parents Arthur and Bertha, brothers Clarence, Henry, Andrew, Mannie, George; sisters Tillie and Mary.
Arrangements for cremation have taken place under the care and direction of Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton, NS, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, to rest with her parents. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to a charitable organization of your choosing or please do something extra special for your mother (if you are able to). Finally, special thanks to Dr. Michelle Saxon and the entire Heart of the Valley staff for the love and kindness shown to our Mother during her stay at the Nursing Home.
