Arlene Barron, Dominion

Obituary of Arlene Barron, Dominion

It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend, Rita Arlene Barron on Thursday, August 13th, 2020. A proud Cape Bretoner, Arlene was born to the late Michael and Catherine (Campbell) McMullin of Dominion. Arlene’s positive philosophy of life was always facing the sunshine and allowing the shadows to follow behind. She passed away doing the thing she loved the most, visiting her family. Although she very much loved her family, she took no prisoners when playing a game of cards. An adventurous person, Arlene loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. A ferocious reader, but no romance novels for her; Robert Ludlum was her favorite author. Arlene was a sports fanatic and it would be difficult to stump her on sports trivia. Arlene was also a great debater; she always had a passionate opinion on current politics and events. She was a kind and generous person who could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. Arlene was intelligent, compassionate and while her moral compass never failed, her sense of direction was terrible. She would get lost on a five minute trip. Small in stature, she had the biggest heart and was a great part of our lives. She has left a hole that can never be filled. Arlene is survived by the light of her life, her two sons, Carl and Michael (Danielle), sisters, Phyllis (Tommy Boutilier-deceased), Carol (Bob Wry), Lee (Ed Kelly), Bernadette (Don Murphy), her brother, Jim (Diane), many nieces and nephews whose children she treated as her own grandchildren. Arlene was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, John, brothers, Michael and John and sister in law, Lorraine. Family flowers only. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21st, 2020 from 2-4, 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
