Obituary of Thomas McDonald, Glace Bay

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Thomas Boniface McDonald of Glace Bay on August 22, 2020 at the age of 90. He passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Thomas and Angeline (Brunet) McDonald. Thomas worked in many coal mines as well as Cadegan’s Fish plant. Thomas was a member of the Glace Bay Pensioners Club as well as an honorary member of the North Street Club. He enjoyed playing darts, watching WWE wrestling and riding his scooter. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Thomas (Neelima), Michael (Minnie), Roger (Diane), Florence and two special sons, Fred and John Campbell. He will be missed by his 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren as well as his brothers, Raymond, Edmond (Sharon) and sisters, Germaine, Catherine (Dave) and Annie. Thomas was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (MacDougall), daughter, Jo-Anne (Tobin) and granddaughter, Shauna Tobin, brother, Twan and sister’s, Hannah, Rose, Mary, Rosella, Angeline, Julia and Nets. A special thank you to Dr. David Ley, Dr. Mark Ellecker and especially the nursing staff on 3rd, Floor West Wing, Glace Bay Hospital for their tremendous care and compassion not only shown to our dad but our entire family. It will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral mass (celebration of life) will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 27th in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Memorial donations in memory of Thomas may be made to the I.W.K. Children’s Hospital, Halifax, NS.
