Blaise Patrick O'Brien 57, Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Blaise Patrick O'Brien, 57, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the V.G. Hospital, Halifax. Blaise made a peaceful journey to heaven surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Vincent and Christene (MacLeod) O’Brien. Blaise touched the lives of many people over the years through his kindness, quick wit, fun-loving spirit and his incredible work ethic. Never idle, always moving, Blaise was happiest spending time with his family, tinkering in his garage, tending the yard with his four-legged companion, Allee and carrying-on with his colleagues at Armour Transport. He will be forever missed by his beloved partner, Carmel Walsh; his daughter, Krystle; his son, Blaise David (Diana Lainchbury), brothers, John Michael (Christine), Joe (Delephene), Lawrence (Joyce) and Gerard; sisters, Theresa Smeenk (Benny), Irene, and Patricia "Patsy" as well as his cherished grandchildren, Joshua and Caelee; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Blaise was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Annette Brigley, Mary MacGillivray and twin brother, Brian. Visitation is Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by a reception in the church foyer. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. His children wish to extend their deepest gratitude to Carmel who brought him so much happiness and cared for him so attentively throughout his illness.
