Obituary of Mary Thelma Mackie/ G.B./ Gardiner Mines

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Mary Thelma (Currie) Mackie, age 86 on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Reserve Mines, Thelma was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Margaret (Curry) Currie of Centerville. She is survived by her children, Cecil (Georgie), Sharon (Mickey) Flood, Joey (Ruby), Francie, Kevin (Dollena), Sheila, Darrell (Beth), Susie, Leslie, sister, Margie Treige, son-in-law, Cecil Doucette and sisters-in-law, Peggy, Betty, and Marie, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma was predeceased by her husband, John Bernard Mackie, daughters, Mary (infancy), Shirley Doucette, son, Wendell, grandsons, Leon and Kurtis, brothers, Neilie, John, Ambrose, Gerald, Joe, Allister, Leonard, sisters, Patsy Roach, Nora MacNamara, Anglorm and Anna. Ma worked as a cook at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay for many years. Visitation will be in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve, Glace Bay on Monday, September 7th, 2020, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service officiated by Fr. Norman MacPhee is Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 at 11am in the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow at St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
