Obituary of Mrs. Xiao (Ma) Huang, China/ Glace Bay

Xiao Ma, age 85 of Glace Bay, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Canton, China on June 26, 1935, she was the youngest daughter of the Late Cheng Fong and Lim Kingfa Ma. Grandma, as known to many, enjoyed her daily walks around the dam, and sometimes happily bringing home a fish given to her by a nice stranger. English was not her first language but two words she understood and used very well were, “Thank You”. Grandma loved the people of Glace Bay and considered it her hometown. Grandma’s homemade sticky rice dumplings were also the best in the world. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Wong (Jimmy Wong), Glace Bay, two sons, Jian Huang (Jenny Wu), Truro, Allen Huang (Pam Huang), Glace Bay, eight grandchildren, Fiona, Christina, Philip Wong, John, Brent, Andy, Jody, Jonathan Huang, and her sister, Xiao Yun Ma of Victoria, British Columbia. She was predeceased by her husband Song Huang, brothers, Jack Ma, Wayne Ma, and her sister, Xiao Choon Ma. A private family service will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay followed by interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
