Obituary of Roger McDonald/ Glace Bay/ Ont.

It is with great sadness and broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of my loving father Roger Anthony McDonald, age 56 from Glace Bay. Dad passed away in Northern Ontario on September 25th, 2020. He is survived by his daughter, Katie whom he always referred to as his Leapy Lilacs and her partner, Clayton who Dad just adored. Roger is survived by his partner, Diane (Ontario), his sister, Florence who was his best friend and his “person”, along with her children, Courtney, Brittany, Colin and Matthew . Dad thought of your kids as his own and had so much love for you all. Also surviving are his brothers, Michael (Minnie) and Tom (Neelima), as well as several nieces and nephews. Born in Glace Bay, Dad was pre-deceased by his loving parents Tom & Mary McDonald; sister, Joanne; niece Shauna and my mother, Joyce Hill. Dad was an amazing father, a wonderful brother and uncle and a good friend to all that knew him. He was a die-hard Montreal Canadians fan and you would always hear him say “Me Habs better win tonight”. He was the happiest when he was home surrounded by his family and watching WWE & hockey with is little buddies, Colin and Matthew. Dad will always be remembered for his huge heart, helping others and always being there when anyone ever needed him. He asked for so little but gave so very much. Cremation has taken place. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay on Friday, October 9th at 10 a.m. with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating.Interment in the parish cemetery. I would like to give a huge thank you to Kirkland Lake Gold who was so good to Dad while he worked there. He loved each and every one of you and considered you all as his “brothers”. As well as his very special friends Daryn DesGroseilliers, Derek Pyne, Richard Lang and Stella who were always there for him in Ontario when the family couldn’t be. Everything you all did for Dad will never be forgotten. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
