Obituary of Frances Donovan

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Frances Donovan, 79. Frances passed away very peacefully with her loving family by her side October 20th 2016, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, N.S. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Mary (Toomey) Fricker. Although Mom was fiercely independent, she loved to be surrounded by family and friends who always made her feel special. She maintained her wit and tenacity to the end. Frances is survived by her husband of 60 years Ronald, sons Ronnie (Debbie), Glace Bay, Joe Kentville, Pat (Cathy), Glace Bay; daughters Darlene, Glace Bay, Joanne (Steve),Glace Bay; sister Isabelle Carpenter, Halifax; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friend Betty Ross. Besides her parents, Frances was also predeceased by a brother Joseph Fricker, Ontario; and granddaughter Destinee (Kentville). There are no words to appropriately thank the wonderful caregivers at the VON and the palliative care doctors and nurses along with the staff and volunteers on the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit and family friend Stephanie Morrison for their kindness and friendship. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A Private family celebration of Mom’s life will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel at a later date. Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery Memorial donations in Frances’ memory may be made to the VON and or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.
