Obituary of Arthur Basil "Artie" MacInnis Glace Bay/Arichat

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Arthur “Artie” MacInnis on December 7th, 2020 at Strait Regional Hospital at the age of 83. He was born in Glace Bay, N.S. and was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine (MacDonald) MacInnis, his sister, Catherine MacDonald, and a brother in infancy. He is survived by his children, Arthur MacInnis jr., Adeline MacDonald, and Angele MacInnis; his grandchildren, Lenny MacInnis, Rhonda (MacInnis) Kelloway, Gerry MacDonald, Nikki MacDonald, and Sarah MacInnis Metcalfe; and his great grandchildren, Nathan MacInnis, Connor MacInnis, George and John MacInnis, Keegan Axeworthy, Noah and Brody MacDonald, Jesslyn MacDonald, and Jaedyn Green. He is also survived by his sisters, Mildred Pierrynowski and Donna Boyer; brother, Jackie MacInnis, and many nieces and nephews. Arthur was a meat cutter (butcher) by trade and he owned and operated his own grocery store in Arichat for many years. Later on in his life he became an employee with Nova Scotia Power. Arthur was on the Board of Directors at St. Anne’s Nursing Home, Arichat. Arthur was a gentle soul who loved to laugh. He radiated love and kindness and put those around him at ease just with his presence. He loved his family deeply, and his greatest joy was being surrounded by those close to him. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus where he once held the position of Grand Knight and he was also involved in many church and community organizations throughout his life. Although he spent a great deal of his adult life in Arichat N.S. and deeply loved the shores of Isle Madame, he always saw Glace Bay as home, and this is where he will return. The funeral mass is to take place on Saturday, December 12th at 10am at Holy Cross Church in Glace Bay, N.S. with Father Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment to follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. There will be no visitation, but a memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or a charity of your choosing would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Glace Bay. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.vjmcgillivray.ca. “Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
