Obituary of Rita Gertrude Bedecki, Glace Bay

Rita Gertrude Bedecki Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother, Rita Bedecki, 87, on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. Born in Glace Bay on May 23, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Murdock MacQueen and Elsie Buckley and Max MacPherson who so lovingly raised her from infancy. Rita was a lifelong member of St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. She spent many years sharing her friendship and faith through her involvement in the RCIA and Cursillo. Rita was a loving mother who dedicated her life to her immediate and extended family. Her love and kindness were unconditional. She welcomed everyone into her life with open arms. She was “Nanny Rita” to many children. Sunday dinners and time spent with a house full of grandchildren brought her the most happiness. There were always plenty of cookies and hugs to go around. Rita is survived by her sons, Dr. Dan Bedecki, Terre Haute, Indiana, Jerry Bedecki (Kim), Glace Bay, Kenny Bedecki (Patti), Glace Bay, Bobby Bedecki (Tasha), Mill Village, NS; daughters, Marie Bedecki, Glace Bay, Kim Bedecki, Charlottetown and Paula Bedecki-Windsor (Bill), Hammonds Plains; brothers, Max MacPherson (Rose), Grande Cache, AB, Kevin MacPherson (Lima), Glace Bay, Erville MacPherson, Dominion, Everett MacPherson (Betty), Glace Bay; sisters Elsie Ellsworth, Dominion, Linda Simm (Fraser), Glace Bay, Sharon McMordie, Grande Cache, AB; 15 grandchildren, Ami, Courtney, Brett, Wayne, Kenny, Kyle, Kris, Ben, Emily, Alex, Ryan, Garrett, Madison, Sarah and Bria; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband Dan, her sister Murdie Clements and daughter in-law, Lynda Bedecki. Visitation will take place at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 2pm to 4pm. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Duaine Devereaux, will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, on Monday at 10 am followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Glace Bay Food Bank or charity of your choice.
