Obituary of Mary Catherine Gouthro, New Victoria

Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of our Mother, Mary Catherine Gouthro, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on December 26, 2020 at the age of 98. Born in New Victoria to the late Rita MacDonald, she was a member of St. Leonard’s Parish. Mary was a true Matriarch who loved her family dearly. All of Ma’s life was for her family. She was also as sharp as a tack, youthful, energetic and absolutely extraordinary right up to the end of her days. Everyone loved Mary; she truly lived her life to the fullest. Mary spent many nights out at the French Club where she danced with her countless friends until the age of 94. Mary thought of the staff at the French Club as her family. They thought very highly of Ma. Mary is survived by her children, Marge (Ron Hiltz), Alex, Florence (Billy Hulme), Debbie (Michael Smith) with whom she lived for her last 12 years, Tom (Sandra Mills), Robert (Cissy Mackenzie), Mary (Mark MacLean) and Margie (Russel Blanchard). She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, Alex, Michael, Darrel, William, Dean, Chad, Justin, Frances, Erin, Miranda, Kyle, Mark, Matthew, Logan, Bradley, Roy and Sander as well as 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her half-brothers, Harold, Tony, Johnny, and half-sister, Kathleen. Ma will be missed by her fur babies, Bo, Molly and Misty. Mary was predeceased by husband, Alex; son, Alfred (Captain); brother, Thomas Lamey; son-in-law, Michael Smith; half-brother, Billy; sister-in-law, Eva Lamey; half sister-in-law, Marie MacDonald; half brother-in-law, Michael Lee. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A private Funeral Mass of celebration will be held in the Parish Church of St. Leonard with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Victoria. Online expressions of sympathy can be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. “What is a mother ?“ A true love like no other.
