Obituary of James "Jimmy" Gregory Wrathall, Glace Bay/ Burnaby, BC

James (Jimmy) passed away on the 22nd of January, 2021 at the George Derby Care Center in Burnaby, BC at the age of 78. Born in Glace Bay, NS on 6 August 1942, Jimmy was the son of the late Henry and Jean (Toots MacLeod) Wrathall. Jimmy lived and worked in British Columbia for many years and spent his last two and a half years at the George Derby Care Center in Burnaby. He was an avid mechanic and enjoyed working on all kinds of cars. He especially liked restoring automobiles bringing them back to their former glory. He enjoyed the old country music classics while whistling along. Jimmy loved his family and always kept in touch. Although he had no children of his own, his twelve nieces and nephews held a dear place in his heart. Jimmy is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Mackie, Karen (Bob) Evans, sister-in-law, Patsy Wrathall, brother-in-law, Henry Porquet and one uncle Doug (Joan) Wrathall and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his sister, Jean Porquet, brother, John, brother-in-law, Harvey Mackie and nephew/god-child, Dwayne Mackie. As per Jimmy’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. There will be a family graveside service/burial at a later date. Cremation has already taken place. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at the George Derby Care Center and a special thank you to Rita Graham for her care and kindness shown to Jimmy during his stay at the Center and to Kearney’s Burnaby Chapel for their services and care in preparing Jimmy for his last trip home. Donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Lung Association or a charity of one’s choice. Jimmy’s ashes are entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Glace Bay.
