Gail (Denny) Meechan Glace Bay It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of Gail (Denny) Meechan, age 73, at the Glace Bay General Hospital on March 31, 2021 surrounded by her loving family after a very long battle with cancer. Born in Glace Bay on September 11th, 1947, she was the daughter of the late James Wilson Denny and Mary Dora (Le Clair) Denny. She was a very loving, kind and dedicated mother, wife and grandmother. She loved music of all kinds and was a long time member (46 years) of the St. Anne’s Church Choir. She loved to paint and was a former member of the Glace Bay art group. She was also a past member of Kinette’s, and retired from the RBC in Glace Bay where she was employed for many years. She liked to walk, enjoyed a good meal, good friends and loved a good laugh. Gail is survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael Meechan, son, Brian Meechan, daughter, Trina (Scott) Russell, her pride and joy grandson, Daniel Russell. She’s also survived by her siblings, Tillie (Bobby) Morrison, Glace Bay, Michael Denny, Glace Bay, Jim (Diane) Denny, Brossard, David (Gina) Denny, Glace Bay, Lonnie (Late Jim) Denis, Montreal, Louie Eddy, Glace Bay, Mary Marilyn (Maurice) Laurin, Eastman, Rita (Jack) Hurst, Port Perry, as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Gail is predeceased by her sisters, Arlette (Omar) Sloan, Hamilton, Ann (Art) Loggie, Fall River, and Jean (Jim) Ferguson, Glace Bay. A very special thanks to Judy Haley, Sheila and Blair Aucoin, Margie (Madden) Meechan, Jim Ferguson, Kieran and Joanne McNamara, Tanya Doyle, Dawn Morrison, Margaret Ann Green to name a few, and many others for all their support. We wish to thank the nurses and doctors in both Sydney and Glace Bay. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Glace Bay. As per Gail’s request there will be no visitation. The funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday April 6th at St. Anne’s church, 695 Main St, Glace Bay, Father Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Gail can be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit, to Brain Cancer Research or the Cape Breton Cancer Center.
