Obituary of M. Teresa (Gracie) Allison, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Mary Teresa Allison, age 89 on Wednesday, April 21st, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, Teresa was the daughter of the late James Leo and Christina Jane (Briand) Gracie. In her younger years she was employed at a hospital in Montreal and later at the Russell Theatre in Glace Bay. Teresa loved socializing, hence the reason she enjoyed playing bingo, cards and shooting darts so much. Along with having a great sense of humor, she was also a very compassionate woman. Whether it was family or friends, nobody ever left Teresa’s house on an empty stomach. She also truly enjoyed spending precious time with her nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom is survived by her loving husband of sixty-six years, “Big Jim” Allison, sons, John (Elaine), Stevie (Bernice), Francis (Barbara), Joseph (Susan) and Leo (Lois) Allison as well as one daughter, Mary (Glenn) Brennan. Besides her parents, Teresa was predeceased by her brothers, Leo (Sophie), Jim (Anna), Bobby, Francis, Joe (Francine), Tommy in infancy, sisters, Alice (Alex) MacGillivary, Marg (Austin) Budden, Marie (Clarence) Debison, Florence (Doug) Currie, Rosie Gracie in infancy, grandchildren, “Little Joe” Allison and Jody Brennan in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Glace Bay. There will be no services at this time. Memorial donations in memory of Teresa may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society. We the family cannot begin to express the appreciation and gratitude towards the staff at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford for the past five year’s while mom was a resident in their care. Also to the nurses at Glace Bay Hospital (3 West) for being there in moms last days. On line condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
