Obituary of James Albert McPhee 'The Loon', New Waterford

With heavy hearts, we his family, regret to announce the passing of James Albert McPhee (The Loon), 61, on April 21 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Jimmy was born in New Waterford to the late James and Florence (Ley) McPhee. James worked as a roofer for Cabot Roofing for many years. Anyone who knew him, knew he was a Jack of all trades. It is well known that if anything was broke uncle Jimmy could fix it. He will be missed by his wife of 37 years, Fern McPhee; daughters,Heather Westwood and Jamie McPhee (Jason), Alberta and his four beautiful granddaughters, Jayla, Lilia, Azalea and Violet all in Alberta, all of whom he cherished dearly. Also surviving is his sister, Jo-Ann Jennex-Desin (Bill deceased), New Waterford, whom he resided with; brothers, Robert(Angie), New Waterford, Stephen (Kelli) Alberta. Also mourning his loss are many nieces, nephews and friends. Jim had two very special little buddies as he called them, niece, Kearah and nephew, Ethan who were in his life daily. His dog JJ who was his constant companion will be lost forever without him. Jimmy was predeceased by his sister, Donna (Brian) Grace; nephew, Garrett, nieces, Nicole and Holly. Jimmy was very aware and appreciative of the special people who were present with him during his final days and hours and for this his family are very grateful. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Masks and social distancing must be adhered to by the public. A private service will be held in the funeral home chapel with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
