My deepest sympathy to all family members of a great man, Karl Marsh, on his passing from this world. I use the word great because it best describes him as a husband, father, athlete, mentor, coach, educator, and friend. My first encounter with Karl came as a grade 10 student at Mount Carmel School. What I remember from those long ago days was his tremendous enthusiasm for teaching. In later years I had enjoyed the opportunity teaching side my side with Karl in the Math department at BEC. The day always started off with a good laugh or two because of Karl. He had the ability to brighten every day up with his upbeat personality. That upbeat personality transferred to the classroom once the school day got underway. He was certainly a positive influence on his students. God bless him. —Paul Finn & Family

Karla, John, Karl and Ian,
So sorry for your loss. We were fortunate to have gotten to know Poppy Karl during his visits to Okotoks and are remembering him fondly with a smile. It was great seeing him out at the kids' basketball games and he was always so supportive, telling them "just shoot shoot shoot the ball!". What a wonderful family man he was - happy, kind, generous and always had a story to tell! We will miss seeing him for sure. Poppy Karl's light and life impacted the world and he will surely be missed by all who knew him.

So very sorry to hear about Karl. He was a man who had an extraordinary zest for living. His enthusiasm for music and sport were iconic, but he reserved the best for his family and friends. He was a great teacher, his students all spoke of him in glowing terms, but his best lessons were for all of us, he taught us all how to live life, by example. Always a joy to talk to and share a laugh with, even if the conversations were, on occasions, a little one-sided!
Sincere condolences to Karla, Bruce and Helen, and all of the grandchildren, he will be greatly missed.

Dear Karla and Bruce, I was deeply saddened to learn of your Dad's passing . For a good many years ,I had the privilege of having him as a basketball team mate with the Strands. He was a fierce competitor and an inspiration both on and off the floor. The team was quite successful , primarily because of his leadership , and this enabled us to enjoy many a celebratory beer following our many wins. In later years , on visits home I always enjoying talking to your Dad - actually I was more of a listener in your Dad's presence , especially when he was on a roll - which he often was.
Take care and cherish your memories of him.

I was influenced at an early age by Carl. First with his playing basketball with the Mount Carmel school and baseball with the New Waterford Giants, then later on as a teacher at Mt. Carme High. For as long as I knew him he was a leader who always treated you as a friend. Over the years he was always keenly interested in knowing about your life. A true friend and mentor.

So many stories of Karl as out coach and a gentlemen. Both he and Marlie were always so welcoming and supportive. RIP Karl - you will be missed by many who held you in high regard.
