Obituary of Tyrone Plichie, Glace Bay

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Tyrone Plichie, age 61 on Thursday, May 6th, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Roy and Mellie (Bates) Plichie. Tyrone worked most of his adult life with Devco, first at the Central Shops then Prince Mine until its closure. He went on to work with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional Schoolboard and then became a safety administrator with Jacobs Canada, working seasonally with Irving Oil in St. John, NB. He will be dearly missed by his New Brunswick work family. Tyrone was an avid snowmobiler, atv’er and motorcycle rider. He lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by his riding buddies, who are too many to mention. Tyrone will be forever missed by the love of his life and best friend, Gerri (Burte) Plichie, much loved sons, Shane (Erica) Smithers, BC, Anthony (Katie), Glace Bay, grandsons, Colston, Larkin and baby Sebastian. Also surviving are Tyrone’s sister, Carol (Danny) Gallagher, brother, Raymond “Rocky” Plichie (Gen), sisters in law, Vina Johnson (Bob), Eileen Vaters (Albert), Alison Gillis (Steve), Charlene Nearing (Steve), brother in-law, Jim (Olga Ward), numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Besides his parents, Tyrone was predeceased by his beloved son, Brandon James in 2019 as well as his father and mother in-law, James and Isabel Burte. Our hearts are filled with sadness, but we take comfort in knowing that Tyrone is reunited with his son, Brandon. We will love and miss you both forever. A special thank you to the amazing staff of 3 East, Glace Bay Hospital, especially our angels, Darlene Wadden, Kristen Dunlop and Hank Simm. You all made this devastating journey a bit easier to bear. I will be forever grateful. Due to covid restrictions there will be no funeral services at this time. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
