Obituary of Margaret Mary Hines, Glace Bay

Margaret Mary Hines February 13th 1959- May 15th 2021 Glace Bay It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Margaret Mary Hines of Glace Bay, announce her passing on May, 15th, 2021 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay. She was the daughter of the late Eric Hines and Sadie (Browner) Hines. Margaret spent many years showing her passion for hairdressing, whether it was in a salon or in the middle of the kitchen. Many family members both young and old were gifted one of Margaret’s famous knitted sweaters, mittens or hats, as this was another one of her passions. Later in life she thoroughly enjoyed a game of crib and participating in a variety of dart leagues. She was well known to everyone as she was always seen walking wherever she needed to go and passed her contagious smile on to anyone she saw along the way. No matter what life threw at her, she had a resiliency to overcome any obstacle. Margaret was well known for being selfless by putting everyone’s needs before her own. She loved going on shopping trips or trips to visit family. She could often be found with a word search puzzle, a diet Pepsi, and a chocolate bar in hand. Margaret was proud of her family in many ways. She would often boast about their accomplishments, big or small. She was blessed to have two children who brought such pride and joy into her life. She loved her family and would do anything in the world for them. She will be sadly missed by her son, Christian and daughter-in-law, Amanda, who was more like a second daughter to her (Lower Sackville, NS), Jenna, her daughter and best friend in life and her husband Brian (Glace Bay, NS). Margaret was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren Emmett, Ainslie, and Aurora who were her pride and joy. Also left to mourn her loss are her five siblings, Joseph (Jane) of Dartmouth, Stephen (Wendy) of Glace Bay, James (Janice) of Dartmouth, Eric (Lisa) of Lower Sackville, Leah (Jason) Hopkins of Port Morien, as well as many nieces and nephews including Olivia and Rachel Hopkins, with whom she spent many days with, by not only babysitting, but becoming more like a “grandmother” to them. Greeting Margaret with open arms at Heaven’s gate were her parents, Eric and Sadie (Browner) Hines, along with many other family and friends. As per Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, October 14th, 2021 from 7 pm to 9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
