Obituary of Norma (Moore) Brufatto, Glace Bay

It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Norma Irene Brufatto, age 90 on May 24, 2021 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney NS. Norma was born in Glace Bay to the late Norman and Sarah (Rideout) Moore. She was a kind and loving wife, mother of 10, grandmother to 48, sister, aunt, and trusted friend. Norma loved being surrounded by people and you were always welcomed into her home with open arms and an offer of some tea and sweets baked especially by her. She was an avid card player, club member, and bowler. She loved to feed people and her kitchen was never without something baked by her own loving hands. Baking and cooking for family, friends and the church gave her a tremendous amount of pleasure. Her most favorite time of the year was Christmas and not just for the gifts, candy and decorations. It was the hosting of her annual party that became a 60-year tradition every December 25th leaving many with lots of fond memories of good food, music, and camaraderie. Aside from her role as Super Mom and Master Homemaker, she worked as a Custodian with the Cape Breton Island Housing Authority until her retirement. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Louis Brufatto, her children, Donald (Darlene) Brufatto, Diane Smith, Jim (Bev) Brufatto, Pauline (John) Coolen, David Brufatto, Patricia (Ed) Gerrits, Brenda (Terry) Clements; sons-in-law, Chris MacNeil and Rick McKinnon; 25 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; siblings Dinah (Michael) Conron, Arthur (Maureen) Moore, and Carolyn (Hans) Hansen; in-laws Kay Boutilier, Dolores Brufatto, Gerald (Shirley) Brufatto, Harold (Elaine) Brufatto and Wilfred (Dolores) Doucette. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughters, Barbara Yates, Jeanette MacNeil, and Irene McKinnon; granddaughter, Tayler McKinnon; sons-in-law Francis Yates, Gerry O’Donnell, and Kevin Smith; brother and sister-in law Ralph (Margie) Moore. Many thanks to the staff of Harbourstone for the care they provided to Norma over the past year. A special thank you goes out to her daughter-in-law, Bev Brufatto, for the many hours of care, love, and support she provided on behalf of the family. Bev bridged a communication gap and left us with many fond memories by way of priceless pictures and videos. Due to the Coronavirus restrictions, there will be no visitation with a private family service only being held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay followed by interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Rev. Dorothy Miller presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca
