Obituary of Marjorie "Marge" Clothilda Gouthro, Dominion

It is with profound sadness that the family of Marjorie “Marge” Gouthro, age 91 announce her passing on Saturday, May 29th, 2021 at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney after a long experience with Alzheimer’s. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Medric & Edna (MacDonald) Doucette. Marge lived most of her life in Dominion. She was a longtime member of St. Eugene’s Parish, Dominion and was a member of their C.W.L. She was an avid skater, bowler and enjoyed playing darts, exercise class, gardening, ceramics, quilting and walking on Dominion Beach. Marge enjoyed her ladies weekly club and those close friendships over fifty years. She lived life to the fullest and travelled on cruises and bus tours. Marge loved to dance, sing and she also enjoyed family get togethers at her home. She was a caring and compassionate woman, serving as a foster parent in her earlier years, caring for twenty- three infants over five years. Marge is survived by sons, Michael “Mickey” (Gail), Dominion, Claude (Donna), Dartmouth, Andre (Chrissie), Ajax, ON., Jeffrey (Erin), Cole Harbour, daughters, Michele Leamon, Dartmouth, Paulette (Ray) MacKinnon, Dominion, daughter in law, Margaret, Halifax and her sister, Rose Doucette, Sydney. She is survived by grandchildren, Jansen and Karla Gouthro, Jillian Canova, Shannon, Susan and Jessie MacDonald, Jean - Claude, Christopher, Cassandra and Andrew - Philip Gouthro, Ainsley, Callan, Reese Gouthro, great grandchildren, Jasmine, Julian and Lucas Canova, Violet and Ollie Campbell and Lila Gouthro. Besides her parents, Marge was predeceased by her husband, Mickey Gouthro, son, Glenn, and son Gary and daughter Shannon in infancy, brothers, Leo and James, sisters, Sylvia and Irene and son in law, Louis Leamon. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and the staff and residents of the Cove Guest Home where she was loved and cared for the past eight years. Appreciation is extended to the staff and to all who made her life there enjoyable. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion at a later date.
