It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Cecil Thomas Reid, 49, of New Waterford on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2016 at the New Waterford Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of Russell ‘Sovie’ and late Mary Elizabeth `Mamie` Tilley Reid.
Cecil worked and did many talks with groups for the Aids Coalition under the direction of Christine Robertson. He traveled to Halifax, Ottawa, and Montreal giving talks. Cecil was the head coordinator for the Aids Walk. He enjoyed music, dancing and family gatherings. He was a kind and caring person who loved to make people laugh. Cecil also worked at the former B&G pizza. He will be missed by all.
Surviving are his father Russell ‘Sovie’ ; sisters, Deborah Reid, New Waterford, Alice O’Brien, Kitchener, Ont., Donna (Wayne) Carrigan, New Waterford; brother, Russell (Dawn) Reid, Sydney River; niece Judith; nephews, Kenny(Charlene), Daniel (Sherene), Travis ( Danielle), Johnny, Jordan, Kyle; grandnieces, Hannah, Alexandria, Jerzie, Chloe, Natalie, Haylee; and grandnephew, Darien. He is also survived by a special life- long friend, Angel Hurley.
Besides his mother Mamie, Cecil was predeceased by brothers and sisters in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, October 31, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Following the funeral mass there will be a luncheon at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecil's memory may be made to the Aids Coalition of Cape Breton.
