My first encounter with Frank was at the Gaelic Society in Sydney, everyone in class just loved him. He did his best to teach us during these evening classes, and he taught the class with humour & laughter so All enjoyed. Everyone loved the class when Frank was there, his smile, laugh, and caring manner put all at ease. From time to time I would run into him at the hardware store and he would belt out something in Gaelic , and I would answer right ( or wrong) the standard phrases I could recall, he would laugh and start trying to teach it again correctly while his wife shook her head looking on with a smile. I am pretty sure as he blew through the Pearly Gates, Kay MacDonald was there to greet him and redirect him to Gaelic Song class.
May he Rest In Peace and my sympathies to all of his family.

Very sorry to read of Frank’s passing. As I read Frank’s obit many memories came alive—I taught with Frank and BEC—remembered that large laugh that would echo through the hallways and you knew he was telling one of his stories and in our retirement years we would meet at Ski Ben Eoin. We would catch up and maybe ski a few runs together. Will keep you all in my prayers. RIP Frank

We were surprised and saddened to hear of Frank’s passing. He was a lovely man who always had a smile and a funny story to tell you; quick witted with a head full of knowledge on any topic. He was in the most enjoyable play I ever directed: Duck Variations by Mamet. He and I along with Ken Chisholm took the play to Halifax along with young Michael and had an excellent time there. Good memories. Whenever I saw him in the years that passed, he would say,”Let’s do that again!”
Our condolences go to his family and friends. Because of my ongoing back problems lately, I won’t be attending the service, but our hearts are with you.
Rest In Peace, Frank.

I would like to express condolences to Margie and the whole Mackenzie family on your profound loss. It is with great sadness that I heard the news of the passing of this kind, vibrant and talented individual. As another of the original staff members of BEC I can attest to the fact that Frank, through his humour, professionalism and concern for students, added much to the success of the school. I wish you healing and peace. - Brian Dwyer

There are no words that fully express the sorrow. Only the love that remains in our memories hint at the magnitude of our loss. I fondly remember when I first met the MacKenzies. I showed up on their doorstep with my nap sack and my dog to visit David, the love of my life, for the summer. Margaret and Frank welcomed me. I was a little shy and Frank would find ways to tease me. We had an ongoing discussion about how dogs sweat. He would grin and ask, “Do you know how dogs sweat?” I would say no and he would explain and laugh.(Through their tongue, incase you were curious)This question was repeated and we would laugh and it would start another story.
As time moved on I got to really see his magic at work with the grandchildren. Ruairidh’s morning would be a bus ride with Gramma on the rocking chair and then singing in the dorey with Grampa. Maili loved the bus rides too but enjoyed Grampa’s scats and dancing. Mairead and Grampa spent many mornings stealing each other’s dimple. The magic continued as each grandchild came. Frank had a way of connecting and making those around him feel special. A skill I understand he learned from Katie Flora.
Frank was always teaching. Through the lively discussions around the table, sitting side by side with the various instruments or working to build and fix things around our home and cottage. But mostly he taught us all through the examples he gave. Humour, courage, acceptance and kindness were ever present through his unconditional love. Dad you will be forever remembered and remain a part of our life’s as we retell the many stories and live out the lessons you taught us.
With love,
Carol

Struggling in school during the '70s, Frank tried very hard to make me realize that I could graduate from BEC.
He tried harder than the Maple Leafs do every first round. Of course, like myself, Frank loved the Habs.
But I hated school, and had no interest.
Thanks so much Frank for your concern.

To The MacKenzie Family, As a teacher Frank always helped every student to do the best that they could, and as one of them I always not only respected him but knew he could always take a joke, like the times he would be locked out of his class room and the keys were inside his desk, we always loved getting a free period, he always made it look like he was upset but we knew he liked a break sometimes too. No matter when I saw him he always made time to talk and I could never call him anything but sir, and many times I was corrected by him. Life sometimes can throw curves in peoples lives, my husbands family the Cheethams lived and grew up on Warren Avenue, and the MacKenzies on Duggan. Even after I married Kevin I still called him sir when I saw him and he would say to Kevin when he was with me can you tell your wife my name is Frank.. Please except our sincere condolences on the passing of Frank, may God Bless You All during this time of grieving. RIP SIR

Friends made through music, having a grand time.
Deepest condolences to Margaret and the family on the passing of a great guy.
It was my pleasure to sit beside Frank for several years in the Donkin Band, and to enjoy his jokes and stories of New Waterford, Sea Cadets, his mother and siblings, Margaret and children and grandchildren who were so dear to his heart, St. Rose, and actually any topic that came to his mind…sometimes in Gaelic and most often when we were supposed to be quietly listening to our band master! He was loads of fun, the best kind of crazy. He’ll be sorely missed.

To Dave and Carol and the rest of the MacKenzie Clan.
We were so sad to hear about the passing of Frank. Frank was more than a supporter or a friend of the Lanark Highlanders Rugby Club, we considered him as one of us. We say that because he fit in so well with us when he visited his family in Perth.
Although Frank didn’t drink, he played guitar, sang songs, and told stories (and lies) just like the rest of us. Frank was an athlete who played Rugby among his other sports. We are sure if we ever needed a player he would have strapped on a pair of cleats and joined us on the field.
We know we will all miss Frank, but we are sure your family of great story tellers will keep his memory alive and well.
Please know that the Highlanders are here for you.
Our Condolences,
Lanark Highlanders Rugby Club
