Obituary of Richard Joseph "Jake" Rohrbach, Glace Bay

Richard “Jake’ Rohrbach, age 85 of Taigh Na Mara Nursing Facility, Glace Bay passed away on Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at the CBRH, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Richard and Angelina Rohrbach. Jake worked very hard all of his life as a coal miner. He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. He enjoyed playing darts, fixing things, dancing, listening to the old country music and his daughter Lorraine singing, umpiring baseball games as well as playing a good game of cards- even though he loved to cheat. Jake was a goodhearted man and would do anything to help you, he may have come off as rough and rugged but he was very soft inside. He was a member of the Army, Navy, Airforce Club, a longtime member of the North Street Club and the Sergeant’s Mess. Jake was a loving father and will be greatly missed, R.I.P. Dad. He is survived by children, daughters, Juanita Rohrbach, Lorraine Gallant, sons, Wayne (Donna) Rohrbach, Alberta, Albert Rohrbach, Alberta, Joseph (Tracey) Rohrbach, NB, Billy (Claudine) Rohrbach, Sydney, Herman Rohrbach (Charleen), BC, Henry Rohrbach (Natalie), Alberta, Melvin Beaton (Carrie Dale), NW, two brothers, Freddy Rohrbach, NB, Billy Rohrbach, Ontario, numerous grand and great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Jake was predeceased by his common law wife, Leona MacIntyre, sons, Richard and John Rohrbach, sisters, Georgette Young, Leonardine Baggs, brothers, Herman, Henry, Alfred, Joseph and former longtime partner, Margaret Gallant. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The service is Thursday at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jake may be made to Palliative Care.
