Dear Nancy: Please accept my condolences to you, Don and your family on the passing of your Mom. She was such a lovely lady and I remember her as a kind generous person who always had a big smile. Mary (Morrison) and I were talking about her and we remembered the big feeds of spaghetti she used to send back with you when you returned to Lane Hall after a home visit. She always sent enough to share with your friends and we certainly enjoyed the home cooking. I know your wonderful memories will keep her alive in your heart.

Now we must treasure all those good times .Dave and I now live in Calgary where both of our children and our grandchildren are so we are unable to see you in person.

Dear Nancy, Lynne, Evelyn, Joan and families,
My heart aches for all of you, as I know how much you loved your Mom and how much she will be missed!
I know there will be tears but also lots of laughter, as you recall the many wonderful memories and moments that you have shared with her!
I spent a fair amount of time at your home, as a teenager! Eileen was always so caring, kind, loving, welcoming and genuinely interested in you!
I can still see your Mom coming home from work, in her crisp white uniform, looking as professional as when she left for work. She was the best Pediatric nurse, by far! Eileen loved those children as her own and certainly kept them entertained!
She had a sense of humour that was second to none! I remember her in the kitchen, trying to catch her breath, as she was laughing so hard telling me about Eddie losing his teeth swimming at Point Michaud. Poor Eddie was not too impressed!
Then there was the time that the girls took her to see the Chippendales and she had a blast! The dancers were drawn to her…little did they know that she was putting Canadian Tire money in their skimpy bottoms!
Her “tickle trunk” was well known to all. She took every opportunity to shop to replenish and stock up on items, including when she was on a visit to Kitchener!
If I didn’t see her at Lynne’s, I always tried to pop in for a visit, when home from Ontario, unless she was at the Casino with Peggy!!
Cherish the memories and knowing how much she loved all of you, her grandchildren and great grandchildren!
Your Mom enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, despite the challenges she encountered over the past few years!
You were there for her when she needed you most!
Rest easy and in peace, beautiful lady!!

I am very sorry to read of Eileen death. Yes, she was a nurse to everyone either through her own efforts or at times Ed telling a story of how Eileen "fixed" a health situation for someone else, but by doing so gave "information" to listeners - especially those gathered at Dave MacGibbon's store! Her faith commitment not only served the people of Calvin but to all of us who knew. It is a long time since I saw her, but those "images" and "memories" last a life time. My prayerful support to you.

Nancy, Lynn, Evelyn, & Joan:
I was deeply saddened when Nancy called to let me know that Eileen had passed. The family has lost another treasure. Eileen brought joy and smiles to everyone around her and knew how to create a fun time for all ages. Her seemingly endless energy, abundant love for kids, and ability to bring people together stood out. I have so many fond memories!
Eileen was always up for anything, and I do mean anything, but I do not need to tell you that:) I will never forget the time when, I must have been around 10 years old or so, she let me dress her up in an ostrich costume that consisted of her bathing suit, swim cap, an inner tube, and a pile of ferns plucked from our yard at the Point. She proudly strutted the feathers to the delight of us kids, and then she added her own twist by grabbing some fresh eggs out of the fridge and firing them at some of the adults to get them in on the party!
When Ed and Eileen had the campers, they would spend some time at our cottage. I always looked forward to their being there "fulltime" because that meant something interesting would almost always be going on. Weenie roasts, sing-alongs, walks around the point, storytelling, hippity hops, beach time -- there was always something new.
Eileen was also responsible for piercing my ears! I really wanted to get them pierced because I was going into the 4th or 5th or 6h grade, and that was the in thing. She convinced me it would not hurt. I was at Nanny's so Eileen came over, put clothes pins on my ears for a few minutes, shot the plastic plugs in, and gave me my first pair of earrings. They were hoops, and I think I still have them! The funny thing was that after Winnie and Myrt saw that I did not cry, they asked Eileen to do theirs, too, only they gave me heck afterward, saying that I lied -- that it DID hurt! (I never told them that Eileen had prepped me ahead of time, instructing me not to say it hurt even if it did or Winnie and Myrt would chicken out.)
Luckily, Eileen seemed to stay forever young. Even when the next generation of kids started to arrive and grow, Eileen was always there making sure the kids had fun and wonderful memories. I remember her tumbling on the floor with Duncan and Cheryl, swinging on the tree and ceiling swings with Michael, and pulling a rubber dinghy full of grandkids through the waves at the Point. Through example, Eileen taught all of us lessons about how to live life.
May you find comfort and peace in memories of the good times. Fortunately, there are lots of them.
-- Karen

I worked with Eileen and have a special memory of a Christmas Eve in Pediatrics. We had 3 children from the same family who were spending Christmas Eve and therefore Christmas morning in the hospital. No one had left anything for the children’s Christmas morning and Eileen was on the job of surrogate Santa. She called whatever daughter(s) had appropriate toys and redirected some toys to these unfortunate children. That is the true meaning of Christmas.Seeing her in the choir at Calvin brought back this lovely memory.

My sincere condolences go out to you and your families on the death of your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
I laughed to myself when the "tickle trunk" was mentioned. I remember, a long time ago, I was home one Halloween weekend, sitting in the TV room with my mother watching TV. All of a sudden we heard someone come in the back door. Ma asked me who it was and of course you couldn't see the kitchen from the TV room. Our "visitors" walked though the kitchen, through the living room and then to the TV room. They sat down next to Ma and for the life of us, we didn't have a clue who these two people were. After asking a few questions, I think your mother thought Ma was getting nervous so they pulled off their masks. Who was it but your mother and Peggy. We all had a good laugh and Ma invited them to stay for tea.

To the Family of Eileen Durdle,
It is with sadness and yet a grateful heart that I read about your Mother's death. Sadness for you in the loss of your Mother and for those of us who have lost a valued lady. Grateful to have experienced this wonderful woman. The obituary describes her well for it is true she always found the good in the children she cared for. In fact that is how I experienced her with others....a very positive influence one that I would want to follow.
I chuckled about the "tickle trunk" I was one of the ones that got involved in one of her events....and for sure when we finished dressing up I did not recognize myself. We went through the hospital and she introduced me as her replacement....well if I only had a picture to capture the moment.....and a recording of all the laughter that took place that night, it was her last shift before she retired.
Seriously I will always remember the respect and care she showed me, and the way in which she supported me and my ministry in Pastoral Care. Working at The New Waterford Consolidated Hospital was a highlight, meeting and getting to know your Mother was a blessing.
My prayers are with you as you grieve her loss and celebrate her life.
