Obituary of Glen Martin Cameron, Glace Bay

It is with great sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of Glen Martin Cameron, age 72 on Saturday, July 31st, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Glace Bay, Glen was the son of the late Roy and Harriet (Simmons) Cameron. He was employed as the maintenance, house keeping and laundry manager at the Glace Bay General Hospital, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home, Glace Bay. Glen also was employed at Curry’s ambulance service and Funeral Home in Glace Bay. He owed horses and loved harness racing, even to this day he still has his harness driver’s licence. In his earlier years, Glen owned several small local businesses and also ran a bowling league with his wife, Nancy. He loved taking trips to Halifax, but mostly he will be remembered as a very compassionate man who would help anyone in need. Glen is survived by his son, Donald (Sharon) Cameron, Halifax, sister, Lynn (Marty) Russell, Glace Bay, three grandsons, two great grandchildren, Jaxon, Autumn, several nieces, nephews and his special niece, Karen (Brian) Budden as well as his extended family in Halifax. Besides his parents, Glen was predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy Louise (Dundin) Cameron in 2016, brothers, Harvey Cameron and Harvey Glen in infancy, sisters, Alice MacIntyre, Deanna Mortimer, stepsisters, Beverly Stratton and Donna Redford. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 from 11AM until the time of the funeral service at 1PM in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Lay Minister Martha MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Claire McNeil and the nurses and staff at 3rd South Glace Bay Hospital for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Glen may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
