Obituary of Veronica Claire Troicuk - Simms
It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, stepmother, step-grandmother, step great-grandmother and a true friend to many people. Veronica peacefully passed away with her loving family by her side, Saturday October 29, 2016 at the An Cala Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late John and Edith (MacPherson – Walker) Troicuk and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
Veronica was employed for 34 years at the Glace Bay General Hospital, with most of those years as head cook, until her retirement. While there she made many close friends and was well respected by her coworkers. She was a great organizer and she played an active role in special events for the hospital. She was also an active member of Friends of the Manor and a former bowler with the Bush Bowling League. She also enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and especially attending her exercise classes at the Bayplex, where she could make everyone laugh with her special humor.
Veronica and Gordie loved to travel and made numerous trips to Boston, Florida, Quebec and Ontario. She could drive anywhere once and would know exactly where she was going; she was one great navigator.
Veronica will be sadly missed by her loving husband Gordon; son John; brothers Collie (Simone) Walker and George Troicuk; five stepchildren; ten step-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren; aunt Julia Troicuk; special niece Karen; special nephew Vincent; cousins and many special friends.
Besides her parents she was also predeceased by her sister Florence.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation for Veronica will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016, from 6-9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
A funeral mass in celebration of Veronica’s life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Interment will be at a later date.
