Obituary of Aloysius 'Brother' Burke, Lingan

Brother Burke was taken to heaven. Brother was my husband, my partner, the love of my life. He loved his two sons, Ken and Bruce. We loved him dearly, we were a happy family. Brother was a kind and gentle man. Brother passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his family. Brother was the son of the late Barney and Melvina Burke. Brother met the love of his life, Verna Bruce, RN, and they married in 1960. He was a loving father to Ken and Bruce. Brother was predeceased by two sisters, Bernadita (Gordie) and Elaine (Hughie). Brother was a surface mechanic at Lingan Colliery. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Parish, Lingan and St. Leonard's Parish, New Waterford. There will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass of celebration will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Many thanks for all his visits and blessings. Limited seating with Covid-19 protocols in place. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford. Funeral arrangements are under the excellent care of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Donations may be given to the Dementia Society. Many thanks to Doctor James MacKillop, his excellent staff, and to the professional medical care given by all involved.
