Obituary of Donna Cameron , New Waterford

It is with deep sadness we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend, Donna Cameron Petrie at home on August 25, 2021. Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late Dan Joe and Chrissy Dan Joe (MacMillan) Cameron. Donna was a CCA (PSW) at Pine Haven Nursing Home in Ontario for 19 years. She enjoyed picking blueberries and raspberries and true to her giving nature, made sure she delivered them to those who were unable to pick for themselves. Donna loved her children, grandchildren and husband, Jim, dearly. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are her husband, Jim 'Gomer' Petrie; daughters, Carla (Ryan) and son-in-law, Mark (who was like a son to her) and Lisa (Jim); Jim's children, Lisa (Leon) and Rob (Kelly) who were like her own; brothers, Malcolm (Chris), Shane and Brennan; sister, Alana; grandchildren, Justin, Travis, Jessica, Madelyn, Emily, Malex, Carter, Tenley, Rayna, Logan, Lucas, and Lincoln. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her only son, D.J.; brothers, Jimmy and Alec and sister, Glenda. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Due to restrictions, a private funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Covid-19 protocols are in place for both the visitation and service. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre C/O Tom MacNeil. Online expressions of sympathy may be sen to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
