Obituary of Helen Durando

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Durando, age 70, on Monday, October 31st 2016. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary (Butts) MacEachern and a former member of St. Agnes Parish. Helen was employed at MT&T for 30 years, where she made many great friends, and later in life moved to Bedford to enjoy her retirement. Helen spent every summer at the ‘Bungalow’ in Mira, cooking large meals with family and sharing a laugh with friends. Helen will be sadly missed by her son, Danny (Patricia); daughter, Lisa (Craig); grandchildren, Robert and Colby; sister, Linda MacPhee; brothers, Dan and Wilfred MacEachern; nieces and nephews. Helen will also be missed by her extended family, Bev and Brady, whom she loved dearly. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband Robert Durando; sister Annabell Tkalec; brother, Raymond MacEachern and brother-in-law Gar MacPhee. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Donald K. Walker Funeral Home, Dartmouth and V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Visitation will be held on Friday November 4th 2016 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St. New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow at St. Leonard's Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford. Burial will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery immediatley following the funeral mass.
