Obituary of Marie Turner (McKinnon) Glace Bay

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Frances Marie Turner (McKinnon), age 83 originally of MacKay’s Corner Glace Bay, NS on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, Marie was the daughter of the late Coady and Jane (Harte) McKinnon. Marie was a homemaker, a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Affectionately referred to as “Grannie” or “Mum”, Marie loved being social and was always the center of attention. Her greatest passion was her family, always family, she enjoyed knitting and was also a very competitive dart and card player. Left to mourn are her children, Billy (Mary), Coady (Susan), Chris, Jimmy (Kim), Ronnie (Christa), Bernadette (Lennie), Anne (Peter), Tammy, and Helen; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is survived by her sisters, Carmie, Anne (John), Joyce, Cathy (Jamie), brothers, Frankie (Lorna), Jerry (Donna), Arnold (Debbie), Bernie (Lisa) and her sister in law, Peggy. Marie was predeceased by her daughter, Agnes in infancy, sister, Claire, brothers, Coady, Adrian, Ronnie, her brother-in-law, Sonny, sister-in-law, Mabel and her grandson, Tyler. The family thanks Palliative Care, VON, Golden Girls Home Care, and the Canadian Red Cross for making it possible to respect Marie’s unwavering wish to stay at home. Special thanks for the support and care from her daughter, Anne, granddaughters, Valerie and Courtney and grandson, Robert. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay followed by burial in MacKay’s Corner Cemetery. Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating.
