Obituary of Trevor Grechuk, New Waterford

We are heartbroken to announce the sudden and unexpected death of our son, father, nephew, cousin and friend, Trevor Carl Grechuk, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Vancouver, BC, on October 13, 2021 at the age of 41. For years we feared Trevor's addiction would claim his life, but he was not about to let that happen. At the time of his death, he was living free from addiction. He was at his best, experiencing so much peace and the promise of a healthy future through Together We Can Addiction Recovery Centre in Vancouver. We share this with you because both we and he were so proud of his accomplishments and he would want this to be an inspiration to others. Trev graduated from Breton Education Centre and held various jobs in western Canada before successfully completing the Pipefitting course at Marconi campus of the NS Community College and acquiring employment in Halifax before moving to Vancouver. An avid skier and soccer enthusiast, Trev played with the BEC Bears, former UCCB as well as on provincial teams in his younger years. He was excited to have purchased new cleats and get back in the game while in Vancouver. Trevor, however, was in his prime when in the gym. He was the proud holder of multiple bodybuilding championships in Alberta and his most recent at the 2017 Atlantic Classic Bodybuilding Championship where he won the Sr. Men's Light Heavyweight Division. While in recovery in Vancouver, he proudly and successfully completed the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) Certified Personal Trainer Exam and was excited to where that would take him. Trevor also thoroughly enjoyed his days lobster fishing. Trevor was loved unconditionally and leaves to mourn his mother, Sharon (Bernie Ogley), Glace Bay and his father Carl (Shirley Tucker), New Waterford. Also left to mourn are his most precious gifts, son, Hayden, Airdrie, AB and daughter, Toni, New Waterford as well as his supportive extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He is also survived by step brothers, Liam and Cameron. Trevor was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Helen and Martin MacPherson as well as his paternal grandparents, Anne and Carl Grechuk (the Poppy with whom he had an unwavering bond). Trevor was also predeceased by his godmother, Aggie MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue. Masks and proof of double vaccination are required at the visitation, mass and reception.
