Obituary of Greta M. 'Nanny' Kearney, New Waterford
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Greta M. Kearney, 93, on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021 at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Annie (Lawrence) MacKinnon.
Greta enjoyed volunteering throughout the community, namely with the Canadian Cancer Society and Maple Hill Manor. At the age of 61, she gained some more independence by receiving her driver's license. Music was her passion and she truly loved line dancing to various tunes. Greta also enjoyed skating, roller blading, knitting and crocheting.
Surviving are daughters, Margaret 'Bubba' Beaton, Alana (Sid) Oliver; daughter-in-law, Alvina; sisters, Faye and Utah; grandchildren, Danielle, Kimberly (Donnie), Allana (Bob), Raylene, Jennifer, Kristen, and favourite grandson, Sid (Patricia); great-grandchildren, Austin, Clark and Ruby.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Allan; sons, Wayne and Keith; brothers, Bill, Gordie and Howie; sister, Theresa; beloved companion, Jim MacDougall; son-in-law, Tommy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11 a.m with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. Masks and proof of double vaccination are required. A special thank you to all the staff of Maple Hill Manor for the care, compassion kindness and professionalism shown towards mom and our family.
