Obituary of Beatrice Cecelia MacDonald, New Waterford

Beatrice Cecelia MacDonald (nee Lynk), 96, died peacefully on Nov 21, 2021 with family by her side. She was born in West Louisbourg as the youngest daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth (Bates) Lynk and was the beloved wife of the late John Hugh MacDonald. "Bea" was the last surviving member of her birth family and was predeceased by her first husband, Lawrence Cann. She spent her early working years using her business skills in the Louisbourg Post Office and later at various banking institutions. She was a devoted parishioner of the Parish of Saint Leonard and a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club. Bea will be remembered for her industriousness, fierce independence and generosity. Mom described the years she and John Hugh provided child care for her grandsons as "the best years of my life, dear". She loved dancing, skating, card playing, yard work, and most outdoor activities. Cooking for others gave her great pleasure, and she was always a good sport to tease and be teased. Many special memories with friends and family center around corned beef and cabbage dinners, homemade rolls and bread, chocolate chip cookies and of course, oatcakes. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Maureen (Gerard White); grandsons, Evan and Jonathan (Morgan); great-granddaughter, Huxley and great-grandson, Lachie. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends whose contact she always appreciated. Her friendship with the late Anna Currie contributed greatly to her well-being in the last decade or so and she thoroughly enjoyed her regular visits from niece Marilyn and Bob, and nephew, Paul and Darlene. We wish to thank the staff at the Madeline Assisted Living facility for their compassion and loving care over the past half year as Bea dealt with the effects of late onset dementia. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A mass to celebrate Bea's life will be held at the Parish Church of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford on Saturday, November 27 at 10 a.m. with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Full vaccination and adherence to Covid protocols is required to attend. In memory of Beatrice, please perform a special act of kindness to someone, or if preferred, donations may be made to Chalice (www.chalice.ca) or charity of choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
