Obituary of Joseph Henry Gouthro
Joseph Henry "Joey" Gouthro
60, Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that we the family of Joseph Henry "Joey" Gouthro, 60, regretfully announce his sudden passing with his loving family by his side, November 13, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay July 2, 1956, he was the son of Lillian (Smith) and the late Joe Gouthro.
Joey’s passion was driving taxi for Marg’s. He loved socializing with all his passengers; many of whom became his friends. To Joey’s family he was the kindest and most thoughtful; never forgetting a birthday or a special occasion. He will be missed by many.
Besides his mother Lillian, Joey is also survived by his wife of 16 years Carol (MacDonald); sons Robert, Derrick (Alyssa) and the light of his life his grandson, Dechlan. He will also be sadly missed by brothers, James, Brian (Evelyn); sisters, Colleen (Dan MacNeil), Anne (Brian Penny), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joey was predeceased by his father Joe, a brother Darrell and by Mary and Tom Finlayson who were like his second family growing up.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Joey will be held Wednesday evening November 16, 2016 from 7-9 pm in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
The funeral service officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be celebrated 11am Thursday in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations in Joey’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Cape Breton Cancer Center or to a charity of one’s choice.
At this time we would like to sincerely thank the nursing staff and Physicians at the emergency department and the CCU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care and compassion they had for Joey. Words cannot express our appreciation for the wonderful care he was provided. Online condolences to the family maybe expressed at www. vjmcgillivray.ca
