Obituary of Ralph Head, New Waterford

It is with great sadness that the family of Ralph Joseph Head announce his passing on December 24, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Born May 15, 1946 in New Waterford and raised by his loving grandparents, Ralph and Theresa Head. He was a fisherman by trade and truly loved what he did. Through the years he worked installing siding and took a course to be a T.V. and radio repair technician but always went back to what he loved most, being on the ocean when the season was right. Anyone who knew Ralph knew he had the biggest heart. Throughout his stay at the hospital he had several neighbors and as each one came and went they would all have the same words to say; “he has the biggest heart.” He was always so caring and making sure everyone around him was okay even in his hardest days. While in hospital, he developed a dry wit sense of humor that none of us had seen before. He kept us all laughing when he knew we needed it most. Ralph is survived by his wife, Sandra (McKay) Head; son, Dan (Sherri); daughter, Stacy (Chris) and the joy of his life, his grandchildren, Emily and Evan. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Marie( Billy), Cathy, Anita (Steve), Jeanie, Linda (Earl); brothers, Jimmy (Lisa), Bernie, Danny (Judy). Ralph was predeceased by grandparents, Ralph and Theresa Head; mother, Ann Fortune; brothers, Bill, John, Leo, and Joey. We, his family, would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way with phone calls, flowers, gifts, food and compassion. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. A special thanks to 4C Stroke Unit and Palliative Care as well as the Halifax Infirmary. Due to Covid-19 regulations, a private visitation and funeral service will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
