Obituary of Harold Joseph Waidson
Harold Joseph ‘Joe’ Waidson
80, Gardiner Mines
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Harold Joseph Waidson on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Dad died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old.
He was born in Gardiner Mines and was the son of the late Harold and Sadie (O’Brien) Waidson.
He is survived by his sons, Myles (Corinne) and Ken (Frances), his daughters, Cathy (Eugene), Colleen (Jamie), brother, Aubrey (Rene), sisters, Mildred, Margie (Joe) and nine loving grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Amelia "Tissie" (Detienne) Waidson and his sister, Mabel in infancy.
He was an automotive mechanic by trade and a handyman at plumbing, electrical and carpentry. At one time he operated Joe’s Texaco service station in Sydney and from there was employed at Yazor Pontiac and Ron May Pontiac before retiring.
Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also liked to ride his motorcycle and spend time with his biker friends. Spending time at the Reserve Mines Volunteer Fire Department helping at Bingo, functions and repairing the equipment was a favorite pastime for over forty years.
Visitation will take place at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Reserve Mines on Wednesday at 3 p.m. with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating followed by a reception in the church hall.
Interment will take place at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines where Dad had been the care taker for many years. He took great pride in looking after St. James Cemetery. Donations to the cemetery fund in his memory would be greatly appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the visitation.

Dad, the Lord saw that you were tired and took you in his arms and guided you to Heaven to an eternal life of peace with those who have gone before you. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
