Obituary of Mary Wilma "Billie" Boutilier, Glace Bay

Mary Wilma “Billie” Boutilier Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our mother and grandmother, Mary Wilma "Billie" Boutilier, age 75 on Wednesday, Feb.2nd, 2022 at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, with her loving children at her side. Born in Glace Bay, Wilma was the daughter of the late Helen (Brown) Micholsky and granddaughter of the late Mary Jane and William (Bill) Brown. In Wilma’s earlier years, she was employed at the AVTC and was an active member of the union. She later worked for the provincial government as a court stenographer. The absolute joy of her life came from her only granddaughter and the love they shared was like no other. Mom was the best grandmother and spent countless hours playing with Reese. Nama, as Reese called her will be so missed. Wilma had many hobbies and particularly enjoyed quilting. She loved to travel and spent many happy times in Florida with her husband, Wilfred “Boots”. After her husband’s passing, she continued to travel with friends and family and especially loved visiting Ireland and Scotland. Wilma loved vacationing in Inverness overlooking the water in her travel trailer with family and friends. Wilma is survived by her son, Marc (Beth), Hammonds Plains; daughter, Jennifer (Wayne) Buchanan, Glace Bay and granddaughter, Reese Buchanan; brother, Gary (Betty) Micholsky; aunt, Christine Phalen and uncle, Sheldon (June) Brown; as well as nieces; and several cousins who were considered nieces and nephews to Wilma. Besides her mother and grandparents, Wilma was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred “Boots” and uncles, William “Buster”, John, Pat, Mannie, Frank, Allister, Roy Brown and aunt, Carmella White. Due to Covid Restrictions, a private mass will be held at St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Wilma may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The funeral is under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
