Obituary of Joyce Bernice Sampson (nee McDonald), Glace Bay

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, aunt, cousin and friend; Joyce Bernice Sampson (McDonald) at her residence in Glace Bay on Friday, March 4th, 2022, at age 57. Born in Glace Bay, Joyce was the daughter of the late James “Chickie” and Florence (Rowe) McDonald. She is survived by her two children, Kelsey and Adam Sampson, two brothers, Donnie (Ellen) Halifax, Bobby, Glace Bay, two sisters, Carol Anne, Glace Bay, and Michelle (Bill Hardy) of Sydney, brother in law, Gerard McPhee and godmother, Cecelia Kelly. Joyce is also survived by special nephews, Devon McPhee, Logan Routledge and Noah Hardy and special nieces, Lacey McPhee(Kevin Hewer), Marcie McPhee and Jasea Hardy. She will be sadly missed by her great nephew, Nathan Hewer and great nieces, Mya Hewer and Mila Simms. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her twin sister, Janice McPhee, sister-in-Law, Sharon McDonald and godfather, Wish Kelly. Joyce was a kind, gentle soul who loved her family. She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved playing computer games, watching TV and most importantly spending quality time playing with Nathan and Mya. Above all she found happiness and joy from being with her family. Cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022 at 11 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Memorial donations in memory of Joyce may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Covid restrictions in place on the funeral home premises.
