Obituary of Josephine "Sis" Gertrude Gilmet, Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of Josephine Gerturde (Sis) Gilmet (MacDonald), 81, on Sunday March 6, 2022, at her home. Born in Glace Bay, June 17, 1940 she was a daughter of the late John Joseph and Neta (Clarke) MacDonald. Sis was the Matriarch of our family and was our source of knowledge for anything family related both past and present. She would do whatever she could to help us in any way. Sis loved to dance and could often be found at the Glace Bay Legion enjoying herself with her sisters and friends. In her earlier years Sis worked the concession booth at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay. Left to mourn are her two children, Glenda MacDonald and Bruce MacDonald (Shawn Murray); her grand daughter, Kelsey MacDonald, whom she adored; brother, Rick (Mary Clair) MacDonald; sisters, Lila Dawe, Esther (Robert) MacNeil, Nina MacKenzie; several nieces and nephews; her friend and partner, Henry Hiscock. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Steve (Edie), John Joe (Irene), and Eddy; sisters Mary, Edie, and Debbie in infancy; brother-in-law, George Dawe, and son-in-law, Brad MacDonald. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Centre,16 Reserve Street Glace Bay. A family committal service will be held at a later time. Donations in Sis’s memory can be made at Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Centre or a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Dr Olaide Odumosu, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Cancer Centre & to Henry for always being here for her.
