Obituary of William Edward (Billy) MacMullin, Scotchtown

With deep sadness we announce the passing of husband, father, brother, friend and mentor, William Edward "Billy" MacMullin at the age of 72 on March 12, 2022. Billy was born and spent his life in New Waterford. He was the faithful and loving husband of 49 years to Barbara (Chesal) MacMullin; attentive son of the late John “Eddy” MacMullin and Eva (Poirier) MacMullin; boundlessly kind and patient father of Stephen (Pascale), Ottawa; Kevin (Suzanne), Calgary; and Barbara Jean (Michael), New Waterford; doting and proud grandfather of Rikki, Luke, Ella, Hunter, William, Isaac and Ethan; dependable brother of Danny and Margie and the late Earl and Tina; friend to many. Billy worked in the mines and on the surface during his career with Devco and in semi-retirement enjoyed working as a crossing guard for school children - work he considered very important. He gave to the community throughout his life with his work with St. Vincent de Paul and the Kinsmen Club of New Waterford. He was a man of deep faith, and commented often about the comfort it provided him. Billy had significant heart issues since childhood. Through this lifelong struggle he endured and fought with quiet determination and courage and without complaint. His honesty when nobody was looking, the respect and love he poured into his marriage, his commitment to his family and friends, his empathy and service to the less fortunate, his work ethic, and the integrity with which he lived provided an example to many, but especially his children, of how to live a meaningful, ethical, purposeful, and joyful life. Billy loved to be with his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed long, quiet, scenic drives with Barbara, sitting with company and a cat on his lap, counting his blessings and making sure nobody drove up or down Patrick St unnoticed. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20 from 2-4 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, March 21 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan. A reception will follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. A life well lived.
