Mary Margaret Hamood Glace Bay It is with sadness that the family announce the death of Mary Margaret Hamood, 88, a long-time resident of Glace Bay, who passed away at the Inverary Manor, Inverness, NS on Thursday, March 17, 2022. Mary was the wife of the late Malcolm MacLeod and a long-time spouse of the late Philip MacLean. Mary was the owner, operator of a local store in Glace Bay that was started by her father. Over the years such diverse items as army surplus were sold in addition to the normal grocery items. At various times there were pinball machines, arcade games, a pool table and a jukebox. The store was well known to the community and a popular meeting and gathering spot for both young and old alike. People were welcome to come and stay awhile without the hurry up and leave, you get in many places today. In later life her happiest moments were spent with her great-grandchildren who loved her dearly and will miss her presence. Born in Glace Bay she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Victoria (MacPherson) Hamood. Mary is survived by her grandson, J.B. Smith; granddaughter, Margie Smith; great-grandchildren, Michael and Lauryn Smith; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, where a funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday at 1:00 pm with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating.
