Obituary of Ida Marie MacKinnon, Scotchtown

We are saddened to announce the passing of our Mom, Ida Marie (King) MacKinnon, surrounded by her family, in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on March 23, 2022 after a short illness. Ida was the wife of the late Angus (Bicky) MacKinnon, and the daughter of the late James and Ruby King. She was born on May 31, 1933, in Scotchtown, NS. Ida will be lovingly missed by her children, John (Linda), Mira; Russell, Scotchtown; Danny (Patsy), New Brunswick; Sandra (Rick MacDonald), River Ryan; Angus (Debbie), Winnipeg and Cathy (Ioan Florean), Halifax; also her grandchildren, Kyle, Cameron, Shana, Richard, Rebecca, Alex, and her great-grandchildren, Brynn, Beckett and Graham. She is also survived by sisters, Donna (Graham) Hiscock, Montreal, and Gloria (David) McGaw, Ottawa. Besides her parents and husband Ida was predeceased by her sister, Mildred Beck, and brothers, Russell and Lionel, as well as her daughter-in-law, Linda MacKinnon. In her earlier years, Ida worked at the Scotchtown Memorial School. She was a homemaker and took pride in raising her family. She dearly loved all her children especially her grandchildren and was proud of their many accomplishments. Reading, playing darts and Yahtzee, and watching the Toronto Blue Jays were her passions. The world stood still while she watched the Blue Jays as she glued her eyes to the TV. Many of her Yahtzee opponents left the game vowing to beat her next time……but that most often never happened. She was also an amazing artist; a gift she passed on to some of her grandchildren. On behalf of our Mom, we would like to express our gratitude for the excellent and compassionate care received at the Cape Regional Hospital, by the paramedics and staff of the ER department and An Cala Palliative Care unit. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m. all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ida’s memory can be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
