Obituary of William Charles MacLeod, New Waterford

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Charles MacLeod, age 55, on Saturday, April 23, 2022. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Alexander 'Nooch' and Mary (Hurley) MacLeod. Willie was a generous man with a huge heart that was gentle and kind to every person he crossed paths with. He also had a strong faith in his religion. Willie had many friends and acquaintances that he met during the many years he spent driving taxi with New Waterford and Citywide Taxi Services. In his younger years, Willie's favourite pass time was spent on the Pitcher's mound playing for the KFC Colonels and the Scotchtown Aces. Willie also had a serious competitive side, especially when it came to playing darts and washer toss (he didn't like to lose). Willie was a terrific dad and his biggest joy in life was spending time with the light of his life, his Baby Girl, Ashley. Willie is survived by his wife and best friend, Valerie (Woodland); his greatest joy, daughter, Ashley; sisters, Florence (Brian) O'Donnell, New Waterford, with whom he resided, Tina (Pius) MacLeod, Scotchtown, Raylene (Allan) Jacobi, Sydney; brothers, Joey, Sydney, Michael (Virginia), Scotchtown; brothers-in-law, Malcolm Woodland, Webb Woodland, both of New Waterford; a very special niece, Ashley (Josh) Helle and her son, Mikel who Willie cherished like his daughter and grandson. Also left to mourn Willie's passing is his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who were all very, very special to him, especially his very best friend, partner in crime/sidekick, Layton Kearney (you didn't see one without the other). Willie also had two special friends, Millie McLeod and Kayla Bussey, whom he loved to share a laugh and spend time with. Besides his parents, Willie was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Wilbur 'Webb' and Betty (Perfect) Woodland; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Florence Hurley; paternal grandparents, Russell and Edna Curry; special grandmother-in-law, Lizzie Perfect. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Wednesday, April 27 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Deyoung officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan with a reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Ave., New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON, Canadian Diabetes Association, Liver and Kidney Foundation, Hospice/Palliative Care or a charity of one's choice. A special thank you to the entire staff of New Waterford Hospital for the kindness and compassion they gave to Willie and family during his lengthy stay in hospital.
