Obituary of Mary Catherine Wrathall, Sydney

The family of Mary Wrathall, age 95, of Grand Lake Rd, regret to announce her passing on Tuesday, April 26th, 2022 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She was born in No. 11, Glace Bay, N.S. to the late Henry and Bertha (Poirier) Poirier. Mary was the last surviving member of her family. She married Sid Wrathall in 1947 and together they raised five sons. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Sid, son, Gary, sisters, Carmel Churchill, Virginia Churchill and brother, Joseph Poirier. Mary was survived by her four remaining sons, Dave (Trisha Carabin), Donnie (Jean Reid), Eric (Susanne Fifield), Derek “DJ” Wrathall and daughter-in-law, Gerrine Wrathall (McDonald). She has seven grandchildren, Aaron, Kelly, Garrett, Jeffrey, Derek, Mikayla, Zack and twelve great grandchildren, Bobbie, Hayley, Hillary, Mya, Benson, Brantley, Nyjah, Ryker, Kevin, Griffin, Anthony, Colby. Mary’s love of family kept her with us, enduring 8 years of kidney dialysis. She loved to walk, skate, play bingo and watch the humming birds at her feeder. The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Renal Dialysis, Palliative Care, Home Care workers, EHS Attendants, for giving us a few more good years to enjoy with our mom. You make the Health Care System Shine. At Mom’s request there will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the care of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve St, Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held in The Church of The Good Shepherd, Dominion on Monday, May 2nd, 2022 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dorothy Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery, Centerville St., Reserve Mines, where Mom and Dad will spend eternity together.
