Obituary of William Daniel MacDonald

With sadness, we the family of William Daniel (Billy A.N.) MacDonald, announce his passing. Bill, age 81 passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Nov. 21, 2016, with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Angus Norman and Helen (McCarthy) MacDonald and was a long-time member of St. Anne’s Parish; as a parishioner of St. Anne's, Bill was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1953. A lifelong resident of Glace Bay, Bill spent many volunteer hours in his community and was especially committed to the founding of the Glace Bay Figure Skating Club. He was also always ready with a helping hand to assist his family and neighbors. Most of Bill's professional career was spent teaching at the Adult Vocational Training Centre, Sydney. Bill is survived by his three daughters: Danielle (John) Wilson, Elmsdale; Patricia Anne (Joe) LeClair, Dartmouth and Elizabeth, Glace Bay; sister Helen Anne Lagan, Bear River, N.S.; his four grandchildren Sarah and Ian Wilson and Patrick and Amanda LeClair; several nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by the mother of his children Patricia Curry. Besides his parents, Bill was also predeceased by a brother in infancy, brother-in-law John Lagan and nephew John. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 24, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fellow members of the KOC are asked to meet at 7:30 PM in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home for a prayer service. The funeral mass officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be celebrated 10 am Friday in St. Anne’s Church, with a reception immediately after in the church foyer. Interment will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay. At this time, we would like to express our gratitude for the kindness and care that his Seaview Manor family has provided over the years and to Dr. Kent Cadegan for his kindness and compassion.
